The Eye Hospital is based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington. We also have a centre at the Horton Hospital in Banbury and hold a number of out-patient clinics at Abingdon, Bicester, Shipston-on-Stour, Wantage and Witney.

We serve a population of approximately 750,000. This figure includes the 627,500 people living in Oxfordshire plus those referred from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Bath, Warwickshire and Bedfordshire. In Oxfordshire alone there are approximately 85,000 people over the age of 65. This means there is a major demand for Opthalmology services.

In a typical year, we:

• Perform surgery (both emergency and elective) on nearly 6,000 patients
• Care for in excess of 15,000 Eye Emergencies
• Hold over 40,000 out-patient appointments
